Twiga Tours has scooped the coveted World Responsible Tourism Award at the 21st World Travel Awards Grand Finals held in Anguilla, Caribbean last night. The award comes after Twiga Tours won the awards for Kenya’s Leading Inbound Tour Operator and Africa’s Responsible Tourism Award for the second consecutive year this past September. Twiga Tours is the only East African company to win an award at this year’s event.
Minaz Manji, the Group CEO, said “This is a remarkable achievement for us. Just receiving the nomination was an honor in itself but to actually win the award is incredible.”
Despite turbulent times in the industry, Twiga Tours continues to commit to empowering the children of Kenya, providing them with the opportunity to access basic primary school education.
“As the saying goes ‘teaching a man to fish enables him to support his family for a lifetime, giving him the fish, will just provide that one meal’. The philosophy of the foundation is the same; provide the knowledge and survival becomes possible.” said Mr. Manji.
Twiga Tours directs its community service programs through The Manji Foundation. The Manji Foundation has partnered with 12 schools across the country along the tourism circuit. The first area of assistance is through the feeding program which ensures the children receive at least one nutritious meal per day. The foundation then directs additional support to the schools based on individual needs, from building of ablution blocks to dormitories, assistance with school fees and salaries, amongst other support.
“The work of the foundation is not for financial or public recognition – it is a value instilled in the family from a young age. However, the recent involvement of our guests, who have voted for us to win this award, has enabled us to increase our assistance and for this, we are eternally grateful to our supporters.” he said.
