US international air passenger traffic up seven percent

International air traffic to/from the US totaled 96.1 million passengers through June 2014, a seven percent increase over the June 2013 year-to-date period.

US citizen travel (43.0 million) was up eight percent and comprised 45 percent of all air traffic. Non-US citizen air travelers (53.0 million) increased by seven percent with their market share holding at 55 percent.

US airlines carried 50.8 million passengers, up five percent, however their share slipped to 53 percent. Foreign flags carried 45.3 million passengers, up nine percent from same period 2013.

The following, overseas, Canada and Mexico regions are ‘breakouts’ of international:

Overseas air traffic accounted for 70.4 million passengers, 73 percent of all international, and grew by six percent.

U.S. citizen travel (31.9 million) was up six percent comprising 45 percent of overseas air traffic. Non-U.S. citizen air travelers (38.5 million) were up by seven percent basically holding market share at 55 percent.

U.S. airlines carried 35.5 million passengers, up four percent, but their share dropping to 51 percent. Foreign flags carried 34.8 million passengers, up nine percent from June 2013 YTD.

North American markets accounted for 27 percent of U.S. international air traffic flows.

Canadian air traffic accounted for 13.6 million passengers, 14 percent of all international traffic, and increased by seven percent.

U.S. citizen travel (3.3 million) increased nine percent and comprised 24 percent of air traffic. Canadian, and other foreign national citizen air travelers transiting through Canada (10.4 million), increased by six percent. Market share slightly declined to 76 percent.

U.S. flags carried 5.9 million passengers, up three percent from last year, and their share dropped to 43 percent. Foreign flags carried 7.8 million passengers, up nine percent.

Mexico air traffic accounted for 12.1 million passengers, 13 percent of all international traffic, and was up 13 percent.

U.S. citizen travel (7.9 million) increased 14 percent and comprised 65 percent of air traffic. Mexicans, and other foreign national air travelers (4.2 million) transiting through Mexico, increased by 10 percent, but market share dropped to 35 percent.

U.S. flags carried 9.4 million passengers, up 11 percent from last year, but their share slipped from 79 to 78 percent. Foreign flags carried 2.7 million passengers, up 20 percent increasing share to 22 percent.
